Initially, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) mission was launched by PM Manmohan Singh on 5th of April 2005 to serve the health needs of rural areas only and Under this programme Empowered Action Group (EAG) States as well as the North Eastern States, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have been given special focus. Later on, in 2013 the government of India launched the National Health Mission (NHM). The programme is mainly focused on Strengthening the health system in rural and urban areas. This mission is extended to 2020.

JSSK is launched by government of India on 1st June 2011 in all the States and Union Territories. The aim of JSSK scheme aims motivate those people who still prefer to deliver babies at their homes as compared to institutional deliveries. Under JSSK scheme all pregnant women and infants will get free treatment benefits at public health institutions including zero expenses delivery. The JSSK scheme emphasis on elimination of out of pocket expenses for both Pregnant Women and sick infants
BENEFITS FOR MOTHER:
· Free and zero expense delivery including C-Section delivery
· Free drugs and consumables.
· Free essential Diagnostic.
· Free provision of Blood.
· Free diet facilities (up to 3 days in case of normal delivery and up to 7 days in case of C-Section delivery).
· Free transport facilities from home to health institutions, between health institutions in case of referral.
· Free drop back facility from institution to home.
· Exception from all kind of user charges (covering Antenatal & Postnatal Period).
Benefits for Sick newborns till 30 days after birth
· Free drugs and consumables.
· Free essential Diagnostic.
· Free provision of Blood.
· Free diet facilities.
· Free transport facilities from home to health institutions, between health institutions in case of referral.
· Free drop back facility from institution to home.
· Exception from all kind of user charges.
