Pradhan awaas yojana gramin
Pradhan Mantri awaas yojana gramin is a new avatar of indira awaas yojana which was operational since 1985 was launched by then prime minister Sh. Rajiv Gandhi to provide subsidies and cash assistance to inhabitants of villages and rural areas. 0n 01/04/2016 prime minister Sh. Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri Awaas yojana Gramin to fulfil his government’s commitment to providing housing for all by 2022.
As per performance audit report of controller and auditor general of India in 2014, there were certain gaps in Indira Awaas Yojana
Non-assessment of housing.
Low quality house and lack of supervision.
In order to cover these gaps pradhan mantra awaas yojana was launched. The details of scheme are as below.
FEATURES OF PMAY GRAMIN
The minimum size of the house or carpet area has been Enhanced to 25 sq.mt (from 20sq.mt in IAY) with a hygienic cooking space.
Per unit assistance limit has been enhanced:
For plain areas from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1.20 Lac.
For hilly areas from Rs75, 000 to Rs 1.30 Lac.
The beneficiary is entitled to 90/95 person day of unskilled labour from MGNREGS
Financial assistance is also provided for construction of toilet, piped drinking , electricity connection, LPG gas connection etc. in convergence with other schemes.
All payments are to be made electronically in respective bank accounts of beneficiaries.
FUNDING OF SCHEME
The cost of unit assistance is to be shared between Central and State Government in the ratio 60:40 In Plain Areas And 90:10 For North Eastern and The Himalayan States.
