In order to deal with the economic distress caused due to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown Finance minister Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman has announced Rs 1, 75,000-crore package targeting around 80 crore people comprising of poor, migrant workers and health workers etc.Highlights of PRIME MINISTER GAREEB KALYAN SCHEMEUnder PMGKS Govt. Provide insurance cover worth Rs 50 lakh for sanitation workers, ASHA workers, doctors, nurses, paramedics in case they need it as they are on the frontlines of the corona battle.In addition to 5 kg per month already given under PDS. The poor and the needy will get additional 5 Kg.wheat or rice free for the next three months. They will also get 1 kg pulses free for the next three months," the minister said.Direct cash transfer through Direct Benefit Transfer scheme under Gareeb Kalyan SchemeFarmers will get First instalment of Rs 2,000 of PM-Kisan will be given in first week of April. Around 8.69 cr farmers will get immediate benefit out of it.The wages of MNREGA workers Increased from Rs 182 to Rs 202 which amounts to increase of Rs 2000 per worker giving benefits to around 5 crore people.Old age and widows pensioners will get an ex-gratia amount of Rs 1,000 for next three months available in two instalments. It will benefit around 3 crore widows and senior citizens.Female Jan Dhan account holders will get an Ex gratia of Rs 500 per month for the next three months. This will benefit around 20 crore women.Female Ujjawala scheme beneficiaries will get free cylinders for three months. This will benefit around 8.3 crore BPL families.Under the Deen Dayal National Livelihood Mission, the collateral-free loan will be given up to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh earlier. Affects around 63 lakh Women Self Help GroupsEPFO regulation will be amended to allow the non-refundable advance of 75% of the amount standing to the credit of member or 3 months worth wages. This will benefit around 4.8 crore organized sector workers.Government of India will pay the EPF contribution both of the employer and the employee put together 24% for the next three months. This is for those establishments with up to 100 employees, 90% of them earning less than Rs 15,000.State government have been directed to use the welfare fund for building & construction labourers which has around Rs 31,000 crore to help those who are facing economic disruption because of the lockdown.Government of India instructed state governments to utilise the funds available under the district mineral fund for testing activities, medical screening, providing health attention needed to fight the coronavirus pandemic.Government of India official website on coronavirus:Helpline Number Toll free for COVID-19:1075+91-11-23978046
